The race, which will be at Panola Mountain State Park, is intended to provide for a special cause at the school.
“This is the first run to benefit Cotton Indian Elementary and its technology program,” said one of the coordinators, Brooke Lee Smith.
Registration for the 5K is $25 in advance and $30 on race day, while fun run registration is $15 in advance and $20 on race day.
Race registration will be held on race day starting at 8 a.m. and the fun run will begin one hour after the 5K.
Each race registrant will receive a custom-designed T-shirt.
“Our T-shirt was designed by a student, Emma Harding,” said Smith. “We held a design competition.”
The theme of the race is Irish-inspired, because the race date comes two weeks before St. Patrick’s Day.
“This race will differ from others because of not only the theme, but activities that will be ongoing at the park simultaneously,” said Smith. “We will have pots of gold coins with raffle tickets on the backs of them for runners and walkers to grab as they pass by.”
Additionally, the park will also offer tree climbing, archery and fly fishing lessons.
Because of the theme, participants are encouraged to wear costumes.
“We would love for the community to participate to not only help raise funds for our technology program but to show support for the amazing teachers, staff and students at one of Henry County’s top schools,” said Smith.
Panola Mountain State Park is at 1700 Hwy. 155 in Stockbridge.
