5K race to benefit Paulding schools set for Saturday

The second annual 5K race to benefit Paulding Education Foundation is set for Saturday at 8 a.m. at the Hiram trailhead of the Silver Comet Trail.

To register, visit, or register in person at Big Peach Running Co. in Marietta and Kennesaw.

UnitedHealthCare and United Health Foundation will present the event, named the Paulding Pep Rally 5K Run and Fun Run. The Hiram trailhead is at 531 Seaboard Ave. in Hiram.The 5K race will begin at 8 a.m., and the Fun Run will follow.All proceeds will benefit Paulding County schools through the Paulding Education Foundation, a nonprofit that raises funds exclusively for Paulding school district students and schools.The race is a USA Track and Field (USATF) race and a qualifier for the Peachtree Road Race in July in Atlanta.Last year’s race, themed the 5K Fiesta, drew more than 500 chip timed runners and more than 100 Fun Run participants. Cost is $30, or $35 the day of the race. Entrants may run, walk or participate as a phantom runner by just making a financial contribution. Students enrolled in the Paulding County School District may enter for free.Bounce houses and Wii Fit game stations will be available during the event.
