It was a major accomplishment for the team and the program. Head coach Janet Oglesby said everyone contributed at different points during the Elite Eight showing, but the player ultimately chosen for this week was Ansley Wilbanks.
This sophomore outfielder made quite an impression during their final week of the playoffs.
Wilbanks led the Lady Spartans offensively in the Elite Eight, batting .333 for the three games in Columbus on Oct. 25 and 26.
On the defensive end, Oglesby said, Wilbanks made a “diving catch in the outfield” during the game against Union Grove.
Aside from the playoffs, Wilbanks, while only a sophomore, has been a leader on the team throughout the entire season, according to Oglesby.
“[She] has consistently been one of our offensive and defensive leaders throughout the season. [She’s a] positive team leader with a very good work ethic,” Oglesby said.
Ansley finished the season with the second highest batting average on the team, .449. One set of games that Oglesby mentioned specifically were regular season games against Newnan and Bremen on Sept. 14 when the team won 9-0 and 6-3, respectively.
“[She] had an extremely good weekend at the Carrollton Trojan Classic tournament during the season,” Oglesby said.
