The Lithia Springs Lions got their first win of the season as they defeated Woodland-Cartersville 27-14 Oct. 19, putting them at 1-6 for the year at that point.

But they couldn’t have done it without their key player for the night, Avonte Boyd.

The senior tailback made the difference as he scored four touchdowns and rushed for more than 200 yards on the night.

“He was clearly the impact player,” said head football coach, Scott Dean.

Boyd is a three-year starter for the Lions and has never been much of a standout, flashy player, but has always been productive.

“He’s a good kid and a hard worker. He’s continued to improve every year. We’ve had lots of injuries to our offensive line so that impacts his production,” Dean said.

Dean said Boyd had a “semi-healthy” line in front of him as they played Woodland, and Boyd was able to take advantage of it and put up a great performance.

Boyd has done well in other games this season as well. While Lithia Springs did not win against Villa Rica on Oct. 12, Boyd played well and made a difference for his team.

“He had a couple good receptions against Villa Rica and made the only touchdown for us that night,” Dean said.

As a senior, Boyd is exploring some college options, but Dean has chosen not to disclose the specifics.

“He is certainly interested in playing college ball and is a very good student with a good GPA,” he said.
