The East Paulding boys’ golf team won the Region 5-AAAAA championship and Buster Bruton was the low medalist for the boys that day.

Bruton is a senior this year and has played for East Paulding since he was a freshman under head coach David Ryan.

Over those four years, Ryan said Bruton has shown improvement, though he didn’t have a lot to improve on.

“He’s always played well, but he’s worked so hard on his chipping and putting and he’s gotten stronger with age,” Ryan said.

Ryan also said Bruton has made a contribution to the team every year he has played, with the first major accomplishment coming as a sophomore in 2011 as he finished second at state, shooting a 68.

Bruton has been a leader on the team throughout his time at East Paulding as well, but according to Ryan, he is very humble.

“Buster is just a top guy but he doesn’t brag about it or even mention it much to others,” said Ryan.

With his “strong work ethic” Bruton is known to practice on his own, even when the team is not having practice.

Earlier this school year, Bruton signed a scholarship to play golf for NCAA Division I Kennesaw State University under the direction of head coach Jay Moseley.

“He had several other offers, but their coach expressed to him that he wanted him to be an immediate impact on the team,” said Ryan.
