The Woodland girls’ basketball team finished their regular season with back-to-back wins, beating North Paulding 34-32 and New Manchester 43-35.

While this did not give the team a winning record, it was a good way to enter the region tournament.

One player head coach Colman Roberts felt should be recognized for her efforts on the team is actually one of the newest members of the Wildcats family.

Marissa Dubose is a 6-foot, junior power forward in her first season playing for the Lady Wildcats’ varsity squad as a transfer student from North Cobb, coming to Woodland over the summer of 2012.

Being brand new to the school and team, Roberts said Dubose “has been a blessing to the program” and also said she has made great improvements since she started.

“She has improved every day. Her post moves and rebounding are just a few examples,” said Roberts.

This season Dubose averaged nine points, 10 rebounds, three blocks and two steals per game.

Roberts said Dubose had two “big games” this season — Jan. 19 against Cass and Feb. 1 against Paulding County.

“Our last game with Cass, Marissa scored 16 points. She grabbed 14 rebounds and was 14 for 21 from the free throw line…She had the pleasure of guarding their [6-foot-2] post player, who scored 33 points the first game. Marissa held her to eight points [in the second game]. Offensively, Marissa scored 19 points and 12 rebounds,” said Roberts.
