With only one loss on their record before starting the 2013 half of the season, the South Paulding Spartans were off to an 11-1 record.

According to head coach Gil Davis, senior Timothy “T.J.” Foster is one of the reasons for the team’s current success.

“He’s been a real solid leader for the team and is just having a good year,” said Davis.

While he is a leader, Foster is not a captain, but on a team of 10 seniors, Davis said it is hard to have only three captains. However, Foster does lead by example.

As a 5-foot-10 shooting guard, Foster currently averages 12 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals a night.

His best game came against Bremen in the championship matchup of the Haralson County Christmas Tournament. In this 72-45 victory, Foster scored 25 points. Now in his third year on the varsity team, Davis said Foster knows his role on the court and plays it perfectly.

“He’s been here through the tough times and is now one of the reasons we’re off to the best start in years,” said Davis.

Off the court, Davis said Foster is an “excellent kid,” a “‘yes sir, no sir’ kid” who gets in “no trouble whatsoever.” Foster is looking to play ball at the next level and according to Davis, he may stay in state as he has already gotten acceptance letters to several Georgia schools, but with a 3.25 GPA, he has several options. He is still uncommitted to a school on an athletic level, however.
