All 38 of Henry County precincts are reporting, and election results for the county will be available soon, according to Elections Director Janet Shellnutt.

The inclement weather early today did not slowed voting in Henry County this Election Day.

Shellnutt said voting was "very steady."

"Some places are pretty heavy," she said. "I went to several precincts early this morning and they were lined up at 6 in the morning."

Polls opened at 7 a.m. at 38 precincts in the county and the process ran smoothly.

"They may have to wait a few minutes, but not anything tremendously long,” Shellnutt said.

She said all equipment ran well and voters faced no technical issues.

Election Day was successful, Shellnutt said, with few complaints and several compliments from voters on a job well done.

Henry County Commission chairman will be decided tonight, either going to Republican Tommy Smith or Democrat Carlotta Harrell.

In District 1, Republican Bo Moss faces Democratic candidate James C. Mays, both newcomers to politics.

District 2 incumbent Brian Preston is being challenged by Democratic candidate Jackie Anderson-Woods.

Henry County voters will also cast their ballot for the next United States president. In 2008, 88,486 voters cast their ballots in the presidential election, with the majority for Republican candidate John McCain.

McCain won the majority in the county with 47,157 or 53.29 percent of the vote.

Barack Obama earned 40,567 votes at 45.85 percent.
