American Legion Post 140 to host flag retirement ceremony

The American Legion Post 140, located at 3905 Powers Ferry Road at Chastain Park in Buckhead, will host a flag retirement ceremony Friday from 5 to 7:30 p.m., on Flag Day.

Boy Scout Troop 467, based at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church in Buckhead and led by Scoutmaster Val Carolin, will retire the flag.

Recruiting Station Atlanta will provide the color guard. A bugler will play “Taps” as part of the tradition of the moment. Sandy Springs Police Chief Ken DeSimone, a colonel in the Marine Reserves, will emcee the event. Representatives of the Sandy Springs Fire Department also will attend the ceremony, which will also include a speaker who will talk about its history.

The event is dog friendly and family friendly.

Dinner will be sold by food trucks including Grilledabeast, Buen Provencho, Champion Cheesesteak, King of Pops, Jimmy’s Italian Ice and Pangaea Global Cuisine, and 10 percent of their proceeds will be donated to the post.
