Fulton County School bus drivers will compete for the system championship in the 29th annual Road-e-o competition Saturday. The event begins at 10 a.m. at the district’s North Transportation Center, located at 410 South Main Street in Alpharetta.

The purpose of the Road-e-o is to aid bus drivers in improving and maintaining their driving skills and to test drivers’ skills and perception in handling a school bus. Drivers compete against each other using their skills in precision driving and knowledge of laws. Each event is either timed or measured to determine the score. Events include an obstacle course with backing exercise, parallel parking, right and left hand turns and student loading and unloading maneuvers.

To be eligible for the competition, bus drivers had to successfully compete in events in north and south Fulton County. The six top scoring drivers and top two “rookie” drivers now compete for the countywide title, with the top scoring winner advancing to the state School Bus Safety Competition in June

Awards will be given to the Fulton County School Bus Road-e-o winners, and a picnic lunch and drawings for prizes will be provided for participants and guests. In addition, 2012-2013 Transportation Department retirees will be recognized along with former Road-e-o winners from the past 29 years.
