The event will feature a silent auction with pieces from 50 artists. Event chair Lauren Bernazza said there would be 130 to 140 pieces in the auction itself.
“There will be something for everybody,” she said, “everything from photography to jewelry to sculptures to landscapes — whatever your style is and however you’re looking to display art in your home, we’ve got something.”
President-elect Deirdre Brock said the pieces’ prices will range from about $250 to thousands of dollars.
Two artists the group is excited to present at the event are Steve Penley and Kevin Cole. Both are well-known Atlanta artists.
Penley is a painter whose work features pop culture icons, according to Bernazza, while Cole is a print-maker, painter and mixed-media artist.
“We’re really lucky to be able to showcase some local talent,” she said.
Bernazza and Art Sandy Springs member Ellen Kierr Stein will be the art auction curators, while Patrick Dennis, artist, gallery owner and president of the Atlanta Foundation for Public Spaces, will judge and award first-, second- and third-place ribbons, honorable mention and Best in Show recognition.
Entertainment will be provided by Billy Wilkie, a jazz and blues musician.
The event will be catered by Avenue Catering Concepts, featuring a cocktail buffet.
Art Sandy Springs is hoping to raise $25,000 this year. In 2012, the group raised about $22,000, according to Brock.
This year will be the second year the event has been held at Motorcars of Georgia.
The Playable Arts Park at Abernathy Greenway Linear Park will have six sculptures for children to play on thanks to the ArtSS in the Open program, which will hopefully be installed this year, according to Brock.
Money raised from this year’s event will go toward sponsoring next year’s ArtSS in the Open sculpture program.
