Bartow County Commissioner Clarence Brown authorized an agreement with a local nursing home that in the end will net the city more than $90,000.

Brown signed the authorization at a meeting held May 30.

According to the agreement, Townsend Park Health and Rehabilitation, formerly Starcrest Nursing Home, will wire $329,836 to the county and the county will transfer those funds to the state of Georgia Upper Payment Limit Rate Adjustment Program.

Attorney David Archer said the funds will then be transferred back to the county with an additional $644,858 of which the county will receive 14.5 percent, or $93,504.41, Archer said.

The total transfer is $974,694 of which Townsend Park is entitled to $881,189.59, Archer said.

According to the resolution signed by Brown, the transfer is in the best interest of the residents’ health, safety and general welfare and is an effort to help provide healthcare services through the Upper Payment Limit Rte Adjustment Program.

In addition to helping provide a service to residents, Brown said the transfer also helps the county’s budget.

“The budget really needs it,” Brown said.

The funds the county receives will be placed in the general fund, Brown said.

Archer said this type of transfer is not unusual and the county has facilitated several in the past.

Townsend Park predecessor Starcrest applied for 20 such grants, a memorandum stated.
