Now that post-turkey naps are over, people across the nation have been out for hours chasing after Black Friday deals to start - or continue - their holiday shopping.

The National Retail Federation projected a rise of 4.1 percent in holiday sales from last year, which would make holiday sales this year around $586.1 billion.

North Point Mall security said their parking lots were full when the mall opened at midnight. Throughout the day it went down holding at 60 percent at 10:30 a.m. and noon, but shot back up to 90 percent full at 3 p.m.

Dress Up Boutique in Alpharetta did not open early for Black Friday shoppers, but at 11 a.m. they had been open for an hour and the store had already seen a lot of traffic.

"It's really crazy in here," said one worker at the boutique.

Traffic was light this morning at The Forum shopping center near Johns Creek. Rick Yang, who lives close to the outdoor mall, was out this morning at 8:45 for a nice family stroll since it seemed most people were elsewhere for their Black Friday shopping at that time.

"We're just walking today," he said. "It's nice out."

Yang said he probably won't go looking for holiday deals today. He said last year he did the same thing - took a walk at The Forum on Black Friday - and he felt there may have been more people there last year.

"This year might be a little less," he said. "The deals look the same, there are just less people out."
