In a news release Wednesday, the Whitefield Academy board of trustees announced Kevin Bracher, the Mableton school’s current academic dean, has been named interim headmaster.

Bracher has been an integral member of the Whitefield leadership team for six years and will serve in this role until a new headmaster is selected.

“Kevin’s leadership at Whitefield Academy has been exemplary and we are confident in his ability to head our school during this time of transition,” board chair Marsha Burke said.

After leading Whitefield for five years, Headmaster John Lindsell tendered his resignation to the board Tuesday.

“Dr. Lindsell and his wife, Stephanie, welcomed another grandchild last month and he would like to pursue professional opportunities that would allow them to relocate to be near their growing family at this important time in their lives,” Burke said.

Under Lindsell’s leadership, Whitefield has had many important achievements, some of which include:

o The completion of a successful capital campaign in a very challenging financial environment

o The construction and occupation of Morris Hall, Whitefield’s new state-of-the-art upper school, which provided permanent facilities for both the middle and upper schools

o Academic success which has led to Whitefield students having the highest SAT scores in Cobb County

o A successful recent dual re-accreditation by SAIS/SACS.

“The Whitefield Academy community is particularly indebted to Dr. Lindsell for shepherding us through a difficult economic time and recruiting and promoting several outstanding staff members who are tremendous assets to Whitefield Academy,” Burke said. “We pray God’s blessings on him and Stephanie as they begin their next chapter.”

The school will host an open house Jan. 26 at 2:30 p.m.
