On July 1 and 2 Wedding Angels Bridal Boutique is showing its support to military families by teaming up with Brides Across America to provide more than 60 free dresses to military brides who qualify for the event.
Brides who are in the service themselves or are engaged to an active duty military man and the bride or fiancée has been deployed to a qualifying combat zone within the past five years are invited to attend the event.
Brides Across America was founded in 2008 when Heidi Janson was reading an article written by a soldier on National Public Radio. At the time she was involved in charity work and working at a bridal salon of her own in New Hampshire.
“I wanted to do something to give back and say thanks so we started giving away dresses,” Janson said. “We gave away 60 dresses in a period of two days and other boutiques I had worked with before wanted to do it in their area.”
Janson said that after those salons asked her to organize their giveaway event it “just spread like crazy,” and that was the beginning of Brides Across America.
Wedding Angels Bridal Boutique owner Jacqueline Westney was approached about five years ago by the organization and said she decided to do the event one time because it was an amazing cause.
“Once we met the people, heard some of their stories and got the feedback we did … from participating we kind of got addicted to it,” Westney said.
Now, the bridal boutique joins Brides Across America to donate dresses twice a year, in July in celebration of Independence Day and in November in celebration of Veterans Day.
According to Westney, the boutique usually has 30 or more brides come in during the designated time period of the event and is preparing with a full staff of consultants to assist each bride. Brides can also expect to meet volunteers from around the community including wedding planners, photographers and florist, all there to help make the special day easier.
Westney said the collaboration between Brides Across America and all the salons across the country is fabulous because this organization would not be so successful without the partnership.
“It is a lot of work to plan one of these events, but it is so rewarding to give to someone else,” Janson said.
Wedding Angels Bridal Boutique, at 395 S. Atlanta St. in Roswell, will host its events on July 1 from 3 to 6 p.m. and July 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
