2013 has already promised to be a fruitful year for north Fulton with major announcements of jobs and businesses coming to the area.

Gov. Nathan Deal announced Thursday that a General Moters plant is moving to Roswell off Mansell Road, bringing 1,000 jobs with it.

“I am immensely proud that our bright university students as well as our skilled veteran workforce are attracting innovative multinational companies such as General Motors to Georgia,” said Deal in a press release. “As a workforce-rich, technology-focused state, Georgia has attracted a cluster of such global innovation centers, and is ideally suited to helping GM achieve its business goals. GM’s strategic decision to locate here moves us closer to becoming the No. 1 place in the nation in which to business. ”

Local leaders are already excited about the move.

“It’s going to be a huge plus,” Al Nash, executive director of Progress Partners of North Fulton Atlanta, said to the north Fulton mayors Thursday morning.

Additionally, Hewlett Packard just announced 200 new jobs in Alpharetta and an expansion expected to be an investment of $22 million for Ciba Vision Alcon in Johns Creek. Other projects in Milton are also being worked on.

“So we’re spreading the love around,” said Nash. “We’ve started off 2013 in a very positive way.”

The long-awaited Avalon project in Alpharetta is also expected to break ground Jan. 28, bringing that new development closer to completion.

Brandon Beach, president and CEO of the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, said success in these projects is due to teamwork between the chamber and the cities.

“Everybody has come together and it’s just unbelievable,” he said. “It takes a team effort to get these things done.”

The positive start of the year could snowball to more success, and Beach said he wants to let people know how successful growth in the area has been.

“We need to brag about it and let people know about what’s going on here in north Fulton Ga. 400 corridor,” he said.

Sandy Spring Mayor Eva Galambos shared with the other mayors that her city has seen its share of good fortune when Sandy Springs-based IntercontinentalExchange aquired the New York Stock Exchange back in December.
