The halls will not be the only places decked with holiday cheer at the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center in Atlanta.

About 15 designers will decorate space in the 27,000-square-foot historic mansion, from the foyer and grand stairway to the bedrooms and the library.

“They really transform the rooms,” said Susan Summers, publicity and arts events director at the center. “It’s amazing what they do here. They also decorate the trees and the fireplace tops. We have other designers doing some of the exterior spaces.”

The community is invited to celebrate the splendor of Christmas at Callanwolde, which begins Friday and continues through Dec. 18.

The theme of this year’s event is an English classic Christmas, Summers said. Designers work pro-bono and are given nearly free reign of the rooms they will decorate, she added.

Christmas at Callanwolde is the art center’s major fundraising event of the year. In addition to touring the mansion, visitors can shop for holiday gifts handcrafted by art instructors and students, eat at the Callan Café and enjoy music played on the Aeolian pipe organ.

The organizers have planned two special events for children: Breakfast with Santa on Saturdays at 9 a.m. and Teddy Bear Tea on Sundays at 3 p.m. Attendees must register for those events in advance and an additional cost is required.

“We have live entertainment by Santa’s elves and then Santa arrives and the children can give him their wish list and talk to Santa,” Summers said.

Other Christmas at Callanwolde activities include Cabaret Nights on Fridays from 6 to 9 p.m. and Cook’s Warehouse presentations on Saturdays at 11 a.m. and this Sunday at 4:30 p.m. This Saturday, children will get to learn how to decorate holiday cookies, Summers said.

Vocalist Marsha DuPree will perform Friday during Cabaret Night and Libby Whittemore will perform Dec. 14. The performances are included in the price of admission.

General admission is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $12 for children ages 4 to 12. Hours are Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Fridays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
