The two biggest spenders, multimillionaire businessman David Perdue and congressman Jack Kingston, advanced to a July 22 runoff in a race that will help determine which party controls the Senate for the final two years of President Barack Obama's administration.
Federal Elections Commission disclosures show that Republican candidates reported spending $13.2 million through the end of April, while outside groups raised the total to at least $17.5 million through Tuesday. Fewer than 600,000 of Georgia's 5 million or so active registered voters cast Republican ballots Tuesday.
