Classes, activities aplenty at Henry Parks & Rec

Winter may still be around for the long haul, but Henry County Parks and Recreation department has many activities that are sure to keep residents warm and moving.

The Neighbor has compiled some of these activities below:

Line dancing

Classes for line dancing to upbeat music are offered on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at several of the recreation centers.

The cost per class is $25 per six weeks or $40 for two classes per six weeks.

Ages from 7 to adult are welcome. The classes will be held at the J.P Moseley, 1041 Miller’s Mill Road in Stockbridge, and Fairview, 35 Austin Road in Stockbridge, recreation centers and the Locust Grove Event Center, 280 Mose Brown Drive in Locust Grove.

Strength training

Getting in tip top shape will be a cinch thanks to a step strength training class offered at J.P. Moseley Recreation Center.

The class, for adults, is offered on Tuesdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Each class focuses on every muscle group in the body.

The cost is $3 per class. J.P. Moseley Recreation Center is at 1041 Miller’s Mill Road in Stockbridge.

Yoga

Come get centered at Henry County’s Park and Recreation department’s yoga classes, offered on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. or 6:45 to 8:30 p.m.

Fairview and J.P. Moseley recreation centers as well as Heritage Park will offer the class at varying times.

The fee for yoga class participants is $5 paid monthly or $8 the night of the class. Ages 7 to adult are welcome.

Basketball

Fairview, Locust Grove and J.P Moseley recreation centers will have open court basketball.

Those interested should sign up at a participating recreation center. The fee is $50 per person per year, $20 for students 14 to 17.

All fees are based on a yearly calendar. Game times vary based on the recreation center.

Zumba

The dance and fitness craze has hit Henry County, with three locations for Zumba classes.

Classes are held at J.P. Moseley Recreation Center on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. for $3, at Fairview Recreation Center Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. for $5; and at Heritage Park on Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. for $7.

Core balance strength

Need more balance in your life? The J.P. Moseley Recreation Center might be able to help Henry residents with that request.

On Wednesdays from 8:10 to 9:10 a.m., class participants will be introduced to an either 50 to 60 minute class with Swiss balls and rubber bands.

These exercise tools will be used to improve balance, posture, coordination and strengthen the core muscles.

The cost for the course is $3. J.P. Moseley Recreation Center is at 1041 Miller’s Mill Road in Stockbridge.
