College Park Ward 4 city council candidates Coco Bright, Roderick Gay and incumbent Charles Phillips distinguish themselves from each other although expressing similar goals.

Bright, 64 and the mother of five, said her top priorities are economic growth, revitalization and community involvement.

“I feel I am the best candidate because I am energetic, concerned, and committed to residents, city employees and the business community,” she said. “I have a proven record of working for residents to promote employment. During my campaign I organized two job fairs and a voter registration campaign, bringing in new voters. I believe in meeting people where they are.”

Bright, the former city concierge, has $600 in her campaign war chest.

Gay, 53 and the father of three, said public safety and protecting property values are his priorities.

“I understand aging residents’ needs, how to work with developers wanting to do business in College Park and how to create public-private partnerships with business to get our low-income community and young adults jobs,” he said. “I’m the only candidate that is committed to government accountability, ensuring that our Ward 4 receives its share of the city’s financial resources.”

Gay, a health care executive, has $650 net cash on hand.

Phillips, 77 and the father of four, said his priorities are progress, public safety and quality of life.

“I have a track record of some things that I’ve done [on city council] but what I want to do in the next four years is to continue to do the things we started to make this city the best in the nation,” he said. “I’ve had the best training, the best experience and I feel that I am equipped educationally to do a good job.”

Phillips, an attorney, has $0 net cash on hand.
