On tap for the more recent meeting of the Governor’s Commission on the city of Brookhaven was the approval of a standard meeting time, along with reports from committees.

Although commission members Jed Beardsley, District 3, and J.D. Clockadale, District 1, were absent, the rest of the members passed the sole item on the consent agenda establishing the standard meeting time for the interim government group as each Thursday, 8 p.m. at St. Martin’s Episcopal School. In the event of a change, members noted that sufficient public notice will be given.

Chairman Ben Vinson mentioned a flux of volunteers having signed on and volunteered to assist with the 10 different committees, and later District 4 Commissioner Kim Gokce said they are looking to respond promptly to those who have signed up on the website.

The rest of the meeting consisted of reports from the various committees.

On the executive search committee, District 2 Commissioner Todd Lantier said they have set Thursdays, 6:30 p.m. as a regular meeting time at the commission’s temporary office space at 2536 Caldwell Road. Lantier added the committee plans to do everything possible to attract the best talents.

For offices and facilities, co-chair Mike Elliot said they have identified and narrowed down criteria for a police department and city hall. Elliot added they specifically have identified six locations for a police department and about the same for city hall.

The planning and zoning and municipal code committee has divided into three work groups: permits and inspections, code enforcement and planning and zoning.

The police committee has received budget information from the cities of Sandy Springs and Dunwoody in relation to their police startup costs such as car maintenance, uniforms, communications technology and more.

Also during the meeting, the two candidate training sessions have been set for Oct. 9, 6 to 8:30 p.m. and Oct.13, 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Georgia Municipal Association headquarters in downtown Atlanta.
