In a news release, the Community Action Center in Sandy Springs Thursday announced it is in urgent need of large backpacks and school supplies and food for the pantry. The center serves the poor in Sandy Springs and Dunwoody.

Its food pantry is once again suffering from a shortage of summer donations. The pantry needs foods including soup, canned pasta meals, canned tuna and meats, chili, corn, peas, tomato sauce, rice and cereal.

The center also needs large backpacks and school supplies for high school students by July 26. Needed school supplies include 150 large backpacks, 150 packages of blue or black ink pens, 300 pink erasers and 500 folders with prongs and pockets in assorted colors.

Residents are asked to bring donations to the center weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or make financial donations online at www.oucac.org

It is located at 1130 Hightower Trail.

Information: (770) 552-4889 or www.ourcac.org.
