More than 375 Clayton residents, including country officials, law enforcement personnel and leaders of many municipalities within the county’s 145-mile radius, attended the fundraiser with proceeds going to Clayton County Family Care.
According to Marie Barber, chairwoman of the board of directors of Clayton County Family Care, the event achieved its projected $20,000 goal with the number attending this second-annual event, being 125 more than attended than last year’s Concert for Care fundraiser.
Although the crowd was there to see the event entertainment headliner, Robert Ray, who had the audience cheering his musical presentation of hits from the1960s through the present, Barber said a new activity at the event, the Price is Right Game, brainchild of Morrow Business & Tourism Association executive director Mike Twomey, “brought down the house,” she said.
“We had four showcases available, donated from businesses and our sponsors within the Clayton community, and it was a real hit,” she said.
“We had as prizes for the game everything from a flat-screen television and laptop computer to gift baskets and even a security system,” Barber added.
However, the big winner was Clayton County Family Care, which, according to its executive director, Janna Sezto, it to prevent homelessness for low-income families by providing short-term emergency rent or mortgage assistance, prescriptions, food, utility assistance and even securing birth certificates among other services.
Clayton County Sheriff Kem Kimbrough said the event represented more than an opportunity for Clayton residents, county and city officials and others to mingle and have a delightful Saturday event.
“The Concert for Care represents a fun-filled way to spend a Saturday evening and still know that the proceeds the event brings in will help those who are less fortunate or have fallen on hard times,” Kimbrough said.
“For me, knowing that I am helping someone made this event even more enjoyable,” he added.
