Congressman Scott hosts military academy ceremony

District 13 U.S. Rep. David Scott, D-Jonesboro, will host a special ceremony to honor local students with nominations to attend the nation’s prestigious military service academies.

This year’s students will receive nominations to attend the U.S. Air Force, Merchant Marine, West Point and Naval academies.

The event is scheduled Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at Brawner Hall, 3180 Atlanta Road in Smyrna.

The ceremony will feature Henry County’s Ola High School Color Guard, soloist Noelle Miller and representatives from the U.S. academies.

Douglas County students to be honored include Jamel Brown of Alexander High School, Troy Davis Denson of Griggs International Academy and Brian Hood Jr. of Douglas County High School.

Others to be honored include Ashley Jennings of Douglas County High School, Shemar McCuller of Douglas County High School and Justin McManis of the U.S. Air Force Academy Prep School.

Other honorees include Anthony Picas of Chapel Hill High School, Hayden Robinson of The Heritage School, Alec Ross of Douglas County High School and Villa Rica resident Charles Wagner of Douglas County High School.
