Falling to Greater Atlanta Christian and St. Pius X, head coach Chet Forsh said he was disappointed mostly with his team’s shooting percentage.
“We shot terribly against St. Pius, under 25 percent. We only got 40-something shots off due to turnovers,” Forsh said.
However, his team did see a much better score as they defeated Westminster, 71-38, as he said the opposing team did not handle the ball very well.
The top scorer for Douglas County is currently 5-foot-7 sophomore point guard Fantasia Faust. Known to her teammates as Tay, Faust began playing on the varsity level last year as a freshman and is a starter for this year’s team, scoring in double figures in two of the three games played.
Forsh also said Faust is the team’s top defender as she led in steals last season and is always set to guard the opposing team’s toughest player.
The Tigers have four consistent starters, including one freshman, two sophomores and one senior.
Amadi Brooks, 5-foot-11, is the team’s starting senior and Forsh said she plays everywhere on the court.
“She's been starting since she was a freshman and is one of the most knowledgeable players,” Forsh said.
The final starting spot is open as Forsh said he has played a different person as the fifth starter for each of their games thus far.
Forsh said his team’s greatest weakness is their inexperience and lack of familiarity with each other.
“We have many freshmen as well as juniors coming from JV and junior transfers and they’re all trying to get to know each other,” said Forsh.
Though his team has a lot of learning to do, Forsh said he hopes they will get it together quickly so they don’t become the first team in six years not to make it to the playoffs.
“I’ve been doing this for a long time so I’m not discouraged. We’re going to be OK,” Forsh said.
He said the hardest part will be getting the players to understand and play their given roles each game.
