Dunwoody prepares to replace city manager after resignation

Last week, after serving five years as the first city manager of Dunwoody, Warren Hutmacher announced his plans to resign his position.

Hutmacher will officially leave his post April 25 to become the new city manager in Johns Creek, and now city officials are starting the process to fill his position.

They convened March 25, the day Hutmacher turned in his official resignation, to start the process of hiring a replacement.

“Right now the mayor and council are discussing and moving forward to establish an interim city manager,” said city spokesman Bob Mullen. He said the mayor and council will “engage an executive search firm to search for a new city manager,” but that firm has not yet been appointed or selected.

Hutmacher was the first city employee after its incorporation in 2008.

He is attributed with being part of significant projects in the city, including the introduction of the split contract service model, the city’s Project Renaissance redevelopment initiative and the infrastructure investments made throughout the last five years.

“We established a solid foundation for future success,” Hutmacher said in a statement. “All of the long-range plans for the city are in place, there is a considerable surplus of funds for a rainy day, and there are a number of projects underway that I think will have a long-lasting impact on the community.”

Dunwoody Mayor Mike Davis said Hutmacher has had a “stabilizing and innovative impact on the community.”

“His steady leadership and willingness to take on out-of-the-box ideas has paid dividends for the long-term best interest of the city,” he said in a statement.

What's Next?:
The city will hire an executive firm to search for candidates. The firm will be appointed or selected in the upcoming weeks.
