MARTA K-9 Units have completed their search of the East Point Government Building that was the target of a bomb threat, and found nothing.

Consequently, the scene is now clear.

A threat to “blow up the building,” was called in today around 1:30 by an unidentified man to the office of children support services in the department of human resources, located on the third floor of the Jefferson Station Building. The building is central for East Point government operations and contains office space for other businesses.

The director of the child support agency dialed 911.

East Point police and fire units were immediately dispatched. Once on scene, they swiftly evacuated the building and cordoned off the area. East Point police then executed an initial sweep of the third floor, and found nothing.

A MARTA K-9 unit arrived at 3 p.m. executing a thorough interior search of the entire four floor structure, and found nothing as well.

City Manager Reggie Taylor dismissed city personnel in the building for the remainder of the day.

There were no injuries to fire and police personnel or to any civilians.

East Point Fire responded with two fire engines, Car 902 and Deputy Fire Chief William Ware for a total of 10 fire personnel on scene.

East Point Police responded with 12 police officers in addition to Police Chief Woodrow Blue.
