Community members will have the chance to meet Emory Johns Creek Hospital physicians in an informal setting at the hospital’s annual health festival and 5K run Saturday.

“Physicians will be there for casual consult, and those physicians are from various service areas,” said Bev Miller, Emory Johns Creek’s community relations director and a Johns Creek city council member.

The event, which was developed in 2009, will include free screenings for cholesterol and glucose levels, blood pressure, bone density and more.

“We hope that folks come out and participate in this health and wellness initiative,” Miller said. “There’s something for everyone.”

Make it a family affair as the festival includes a special kids’ zone for children’s activities.

The kick-off to the festival will be the 5K Scrub Run starting at 8 a.m. Wearing scrubs is not required, and strollers and pets are welcome. Children ages 10 and under can participate in a 100-yard dash at 9 a.m.

Miller anticipates about 300 participants for the 5K. Proceeds from the race go to the Emory Johns Creek Hospital Foundation, which has benefited local schools in the past. Entry fees are $25 for those who pre-register by Thursday. The cost goes up to $30 afterwards.

Also as part of the hospital’s initiative on recycling, festival attendees can bring in old electronics to be recycled and documents for shredding.
