With one last run on the State Meet Course in Carrollton, Allie Buchalski confirmed her place as one of the great cross country runners in state history.

The Johns Creek senior blazed through the five kilometer course in 18 minutes and 46.23 seconds — topping her closest competitor in Class AAAAAA by over 11 seconds and posting the fastest time overall of more than 1,000 female runners present in Carrollton.

The state title was the third for Buchalski in four years at Johns Creek, and her third different classification championship — also winning the Class AAA title as a freshman and a Class AAAA title last fall.

“She is a once in a lifetime type kid to coach,” said Johns Creek coach Danny Brock of his star runner. “She was willing to do whatever it took to be the best that she could be, and she made sacrifices that most teenage girls are not willing to go [to be great].”

Brock said her success was derived from a goal-oriented personality and the self-motivation she had to be the best in the stats.

“I didn’t have to push her,” said Brock of Buchalski, who will run at Furman University next fall. “But she listened to her coaches and always believed in what she was doing.”
