Now in her fourth year as a starter for the Alpharetta basketball team, point guard Lauren Brown will wear many hats for the Lady Raiders basketball team this winter.

With the ball in her hands, the 5-foot-9 Brown will quarterback head coach Mike House’s up-tempo offense; on defense the Elon signee will draw the assignment of the opposition’s best player and as a senior she’ll assume the leadership role of a veteran team captain.

“As a first year coach it’s huge for me to have Lauren here, a player that knows what it takes to be successful and can exemplify those traits to her teammates,” said House, who came to Alpharetta from Jonesboro High School. “She’s a facilitator, creator and an innovator with the ball in her hands and someone I know can do everything we need on the offensive end of the floor.

“She’s a shut down defender too. Just look at our win against McEachern when she locked down their star guard Te’a Cooper.”

Brown led Alpharetta to 50-41 win over the Lady Indians on Nov. 17, upending the defending AAAAA state champions and putting an abrupt end to McEachern’s 33-game winning streak.

“She’s just a special player,” said House. “She is a kid that can do everything you need to win a ball game.”
