In January, the senior forward was selected to the 2012 High School Girls All-Region III team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America — the first Riverwood player to be chosen for the honor.
De Groot was honored for an outstanding junior season at Riverwood in ’12, when she scored 17 goals to lead the Raiders to a 10-9-1 record and a berth in the Class AAA state playoffs.
Going into the 2013 season, de Groot ranks among the school’s girls’ career soccer leaders in assists (fifth) and goals (sixth).
She has been a key part of the Riverwood girls’ team the last four years, helping lead the Raiders to the state playoffs in each of her first three seasons, including the quarterfinals in ’10 and the second round in ’11.
“Each year, her role on the team has expanded,” Riverwood coach Donald Macoy said. “In addition to being very good on the ball, Alexis has a very good ability to get those around her to play better.”
