Last Wednesday, the 6-foot-2 senior signed a scholarship with the Mercer Lady Bears.
“I hadn’t planned on really going there and we went to a camp there in June and something about the atmosphere hit me,” Anderson said. “The athletics there are very important and that is just something that is very dear to me.”
“I wanted Ana to play for Coach [Susie] Gardner because we both were coached by the best in the business in Andy Landers,” Arlington Christian coach Lady Grooms said. “Susie expects greatness and Ana is super on and off the floor.”
Anderson, who helped Arlington win its last two titles and extend its winning streak to 104 games, was also considering Appalachian State, Western Carolina and Tennessee-Chattanooga.
“Ana is a fundamentally sound post player who can score with her back to the basket or by facing up away from the hoop,” Gardner said.
During the offseason, Anderson said she prepared herself mentally to lead the team. Anderson has a 3.9 GPA and wants to help children with special needs.
