Junior outside hitter Chelona Holmes helped them accomplish the goals with a first-round victory over Morrow at East Coweta.
“We had a great game that day,” Lovejoy volleyball coach John Holladay said. “Everybody was hitting on all cylinders and it really starts with her. We normally try to start the game going to her for our first hit just because that kind of sets the tempo for what we want to do.”
Then after a setback to East Coweta, Lovejoy took down Langston Hughes in a win-or-go-home scenario.
“When our back was against the wall she led us out,” Holladay said.
“We had a lot of up and downs and issues throughout the team,” Holmes said. “But in the end, we seemed to work it out pretty well.”
As a result, the Lady Wildcats traveled to Kingsland last Thursday but lost 0-3 to Camden County.
Now, Holmes, who also plans to join the A-5 club volleyball team, will turn her attention to basketball. She has a 3.5 GPA and interest in accounting.
