A young and rebuilding Riverwood girls’ basketball team looked for its lone senior, Daizha Tate-Edge, to lead the way as it began the 2013-14 season.

The 5-foot-8 guard certainly has lived up to those high expectations, leading the team with 18.1 points a game so far this year.

Tate-Edge stepped up her game even more in Riverwood’s last two contests – first scoring 29 points in a 61-55 victory over Sprayberry Dec. 13, then coming through with a career-high 34 points in a 66-58 overtime win over Blessed Trinity Dec. 14.

In the game with Blessed Trinity, she scored nine of the 15 points the Lady Raiders totaled in the extra period.

Tate-Edge – who also had 25 points in a 58-41 loss to Sequoyah Dec. 6 — has scored in double-figures in every game except one this season.

“By her demeanor and her frame, you wouldn’t think she’s the type of player that she is, because she’s not a big, tall girl by any stretch,” Riverwood coach Tony Manning said. “But, she’s tough as nails. She never gives up, she never quits and she gives 110 percent every single game she plays and I think it helps with the younger girls to see her effort.”
