Whenever the Lovett volleyball team needs a big play, Harley Sebastian is there to step up and deliver.

The 6-foot-1 sophomore outside hitter has continued her clutch play during Lovett’s drive to the Class AA state volleyball finals.

Sebastian led Lovett to victory in its quarterfinal match against St. Vincent’s Oct. 26, recording 16 kills and a hitting percentage of .464 as the Lady Lions won 25-8, 25-9, 25-16.

Through the St. Vincent’s match, Sebastian had 260 kills (3.55 per game), a .286 hitting percentage, 41 aces and 2.1 digs per game for the season.

As impressive as her stats are, it is Sebastian’s ability to come through in crucial situations that is most notable to Lovett coach Mary Buczek.

“She is still young as a sophomore player, but we really do rely on her because, at crunch time, she wants the ball and she is capable of killing that ball, and that’s why she leads us in attempts and in kills,” Buczek said.

Sebastian made her mark immediately as a freshman for Lovett last year with 280 kills, 33 aces, 20 blocks and 175 digs, earning her a spot on Prep Volleyball magazine’s Highest Honorable Mention list as one of the top first-year high school players in the nation. She is also a member of the A5 Volleyball Club.
