“Being at the top of the press she is long and lanky,” Jonesboro girls’ coach Lamar Harris said. “It’s hard to pass over her. When she spreads those wings it kind of closes all of the passing lanes. She’s athletic and she can run. We try to take advantage of that also.”
The 6-foot-1 Dawkins finished with 14 points, nine rebounds and three steals in the rout.
“When I ask her to do something she responds well,” Harris said. She’s willing to do whatever she has to do to make us successful.”
In Jonesboro’s seventh straight win, a 41-30 victory over Riverdale last Friday, Dawkins, who will play basketball at Jacksonville next year, had seven points, nine boards, six steals and two blocks.
“We are working hard,” Dawkins said. “We all got one goal in mind—make another run in the state playoffs.”
Dawkins has a 3.3 grade-point average and plans to major in nursing or education.
