High winds helped spread a fire which destroyed four buildings and burned about 20 cars in a nearby junkyard Thursday on Macland Road, Paulding fire department officials reported.

The buildings at the corner of Macland and Old Mill roads included two homes and two detached garage structures, said department spokeswoman MaryAnn Phipps. No injuries were reported.

She said the fires, which have been contained, began in a burn barrel. High winds helped spread the flames.

Five Paulding fire department units and 25 firefighters responded to the blaze.

Two Georgia Forestry tractors and Forestry personnel assisted in the removal of vegetation, Phipps said.
