During the time of transition, firefighters from Fire Station No. 15 will work from Fire Station No. 17.
The closure of the former Fire Station No. 15 was a decision based upon cost-cutting measures.
“We were paying around $5,100 a month in a lease agreement,” said Fulton County Fire Chief Larry Few. “Before we get too far down the road, we need to be thinking of using that money for a more permanent situation.”
Fulton County entered into the lease at the former site in mid-2008.
Few said a more permanent site for Fire Station No. 15 should have been looked into before now.
“We should have done this years ago,” he said.
Relocating the new station to Cedar Grove Park, at 6625 Cedar Grove Road, was indeed strategic for a few reasons, including having the station on county-owned property.
“We are in the mode to be more efficient about what we do on a county-owned property and building,” said Few.
The expected budget for the new structure is estimated to be around $400,000, said Few.
The benefits of the new station include faster response times and greater efficiency.
“It will help us with our call volume,” said Few. “We would be closer and centrally located to where our call volume is. This is really a win-win for the county all the way around.”
Few said citizens should not worry about any lapses or disruption of service due to the transition period during the next few months.
“We strive to deliver the most efficient and most responsive service to our citizens,” he said. “They should feel no impact on us moving.”
