Blooms of Dunwoody, 5479 Chamblee Dunwoody Road, is far from your garden-variety flower merchant.

The floral shop and event planning hybrid is but a mere three weeks into its residence at the Dunwoody Village shopping center and has already managed to generate a palpable buzz in the area.

“We’ve been really busy,” said proprietor Suzanne Conreaux. “And, we’ve had so many people stopping by to just see the space … it’s great to be welcomed to the community in such a nice manner.”

The family-owned venture aims to fill a void in the process on two levels.

“We’re now pretty much the only florist in Dunwoody from a retail perspective,” said Conreaux. “Event planning is what we’ve added … it’s something fresh and different for the Dunwoody area. Whether it’s a wedding, baby shower or anniversary party, anything anybody needs help with the day of or pre-planning, we’re here to help.”

While Conreaux runs the show, husband, Patrick, handles the marketing creative design aspects of the business — from the company logo to its website to signage.

It was not that long ago that Conreaux, a longtime project manager and event planner at Coca-Cola at the time, was working as an apprentice at David’s Flowers in her free time. The latter business, located a few steps away from Blooms’ current location, was closed earlier this year.

“I always wanted to own a floral shop,” Conreaux said. “The stars aligned … It was the perfect opportunity to jump in and do this.”

Of the handful of floral designers on staff, most are holdovers from David’s Flowers, including master florist David Bouseman.

Bouseman amassed quite the loyal following during his two-plus decades run at David’s — most of that clientele has been in lockstep with Bouseman during his transition to Blooms.

“I’ve been designing flowers for over 25 years — I’ve done flowers for a newborn baby girl and, down the road, I’ve done her wedding,” Bouseman said. “The reaction of my [longtime clients] to the move has just been fabulous, beyond my expectations. It’s been a dream … Suzanne and her husband’s vision of what they want the shop to be is why I’m here.”

Blooms — with its plethora of gift baskets, bouquets and seasonal centerpieces — is not just a local operation. Its flower delivery capabilities encompass Dunwoody and the surrounding areas as well as national and international patronage through its network of trusted florists.
