The owner Kemi Inegbedion, who previously worked in construction doing project management, describes herself as a baker at heart.
“I’ve always had a passion for baking,” she said. “I wanted to venture out on my own. When the opportunity came, I kind of took it and ran with it.”
Inegbedion chose College Park as the location for her first business venture because of familiarity. She has a son who attends Woodward Academy, which is not far from the location.
“It just feels like a good neighborhood to be a part of,” she said. “I am trying to bring variety and something different to the neighborhood.”
Although the name of her establishment is Forever Cupcakes, there is more in store at the restaurant outside of the freshly baked creations — small plates loaded with big flavors.
Tapas offerings include the popular fish tacos, a harmonious combination of beer-battered tilapia, coleslaw with a zing and warmed-to-a-crisp tortillas, lump crab cakes served with a dabble of sizzling mango salsa and shrimp and grits, featuring a curry sauce that Inegbedion created herself.
Serving more than cupcakes, however, was not apart of the original plan.
“It was going to just be a bakery at first, but when I saw how large the space was, I decided I had to do more,” she said.
The combination of all three — drinks, desserts and dinner — is something Inegbedion hopes will attract residents and patrons at large. “Hopefully [residents] patronize my restaurant because it’s something different they can come out and experience,” she said.
“It’s like a one-stop shop. They can have a cupcake, a cocktail and have a small plate, all in a nice atmosphere.”
The restaurant is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and closed on Sunday.
Forever Cupcakes tapas lounge and bar is at 3719 Main St.
