Zachary Williams, who has been with the county since 2008, is leaving his position to be the executive assistant/chief operating officer for DeKalb County.
“I am very proud of the team we have built here,” Williams said. “We have enjoyed great success in improving the quality of care and the service that is provided to our citizens and have taken some real innovative approaches to our service delivery.”
His resignation was accepted at the Dec. 5 meeting of the Fulton County Board of Commissioners.
County Attorney David Ware will fill in as interim county manager effective Jan. 1.
Ware has been with the county since 2008.
The process of for seeking out a new county manager has not yet been determined, according to Fulton County spokesperson Jessica Corbitt-Dominguez.
“In some times, the board conducts national searches for high-level positions,” she said. “They have not specifically stated whether they will do that.”
Williams was found through a national search.
Before joining the board, he previously served as assistant county administrator for Broward County in Florida from 2004 to 2008.
“Zach Williams has been a tremendous asset to Fulton County in his year of service here, and we wish him well as he moves on to new opportunities in our sister county of DeKalb,” commission chairman John Eaves said in a press release.
