The program, typically each year in late July, acts as orientation for teachers to become acquainted with the school system.
This year it was July 23 to 25 at the Henry County Performing Arts Center.
During those three days, 125 prospective teachers attended various workshops and talks geared toward making a smooth transition — such as professionalism, communication, classroom management and a benefits presentation.
Teachers also had the opportunity to meet members of the board of education, administrators and attend a luncheon sponsored by the Education Committee of the Henry County Chamber of Commerce.
On the fourth day, teachers went to their respective school to receive orientation there.
The program is crucial, said Superintendent Ethan Hildreth, to ensure the success of the estimated 39,000 students that will be ushering in the 2012-13 school year in the school system.
“We’re proud of all students here in Henry County that strive and aim for high goals and achievement,” he said. “And you all are just the people to get them there.”
To ensure that success is achieved for each teacher during their first year, follow-up meetings will be held once a month at each school to address concerns that may arise.
Hildreth also emphasized the desire for each of the incoming teachers to have a positive experience.
“Our goal is to see great success for every one of you at Henry County Schools and through you great success for hundreds, and over the years, thousands of students,” he said. “You’re going to touch lives as you work with those students.”
The first day of classes for Henry County students is Aug. 6.
Open house for parents and students is Aug. 2, 1 to 3 p.m. for high school, 3 to 5 p.m. for middle school and 5 to 7 p.m. for elementary school.
School start and end times have met slight adjustments for the upcoming school year.
Elementary schools will remain the same with a start at 7:55 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m., while middle schools will start at 8:55 a.m. and end at 3:55 p.m. and high school from 8:10 a.m. to 3:10 p.m.
