Car enthusiasts and their families from nearby are likely to roll into the city of Dunwoody Friday for the third annual Friday Night Lights event, spearheaded by the Dunwoody Driving Club. It will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at 2484 Mt. Vernon Road.

While the event, which last year brought in about 300 visitors and more than 100 distinctive cars, will pretty much stay the same, one new addition this year will be several food trucks on site, said club founder Chuck Wing.

“We decided to do something different and we invited some food trucks to participate,” he said. “And that’s exciting. They have not been to this part of Dunwoody. We’ll have three to four of those.”

With about 75 active members of the club, there will be a multitude of cars on display for guests to see, including Wing’s own 2001 Porsche and his wife Ellen’s 2003 Mercedes 500SL.

The event is drawing larger crowds and Wing said submissions tend to come in from a 10-mile radius, but that anyone is welcome to come and show their car or just meet new friends.

One group that is a frequent exhibitor at the event, the ROMEOS (Retired Old Men Eating Out) includes several men with hot rods and customized cars that will be seen Friday, said Wing.

When asked what makes one fascinated with vintage vehicles, Wing traced it back to youth.

“They sort of relive their childhood or teenage years,” said Wing.

“It’s something nostalgic and a part of their lives.”

The club not only puts on this event yearly, but also participates in several others including a trip up to the Atlanta Motor Sports Park in Dahlonega.

Overall, Wing is looking forward to bringing this family-friendly event back to Dunwoody and surrounding communities.
