The event will bring more than 1,000 business leaders from around the nation together to talk about a variety of human resource management issues.
Crisis communications will be one major workplace topic addressed during the two-day conference. Wellness will be another.
Monday at 10:30 a.m., on the first day of the conference, attendees will hear the first speech of its kind, “Managing Crisis Situations,” a topic that has never been presented at the conference.
Delivering the speech will be Joseph M.A. Ledlie, president of The Ledlie Group, a Buckhead-based corporate communications consultancy.
This session will show the human resources officer how to position peers for leadership in a crisis situation, how to mitigate damage, reduce stress and assist the CEO in keeping operations afloat.
“The core business operation cannot stray in the troubled waters,” Ledlie said. “Businesses must keep the CEO at the helm and above the noise to keep operations afloat.”
Crises include direct human resources issues like EEOC complaints and other discrimination claims, including sexual and religious harassment, third-party organizing efforts and disruptions. Indirect issues include manufacturing defects and recalls, natural and manmade disasters, financial setbacks and media intrusion.
Regarding workplace wellness, Jack Bruce, one of the conference’s main speakers on that topic and the chief operating officer of BIS Benefits, said, “Any company of any size can enjoy a well-designed wellness program. We’re happy to show anyone how.”
BIS is an Alpharetta-based employee benefits brokerage and consulting firm.
Wellness programs across the country have been praised for cutting health care costs and reducing insurance premiums. But BIS aims for a broader impact.
“Increased productivity at work depends on our lives inside and outside the office,” Bruce said. “Overall wellness of our wonderful employees is the goal — a lower cost burden on the bottom line is just an added bonus.”
