Johns Creek city council recognized the 2012 Johns Creek State Swim Team — the JCATS — for accomplishments at the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association State Swim Meet held July 27 and 28.

The JCATS, which stands for the Johns Creek Aquatic Team, is comprised of 81 swimmers from neighborhood teams. The swimmers range from 7 to 18 years old and have been practicing at Seven Oaks’ neighborhood swimming pool.

This was the fifth year Johns Creek has had representation at the meet, and the 81 swimmers brought home medals from 39 individual events and 16 relay events. This includes 14 first-place medals, four second-place medals and seven third-place medals.

“Most importantly, our swimmers, coaches and parents all had a great time and we showed the state of Georgia that there’s nothing fiercer than a wet CAT,” said Kirk Franz, recreation manager for the city.

Among the accolades earned at the meet, 8-year-old Carson Kennedy of Johns Creek set a new record in the 7-8 Boys 100 Yard Individual Medley preliminaries by more than a second. His swim time for the race was 1:17.42. Later he broke his own record in the finals with a time of 1:17.20.

Swimmers were thanked by city council and awarded a certificate and medal provided by the Riley McLendon Law Firm.
