My name is Amanda Wilson, I am a registered voter and have been a Dunwoody resident for the past four years. I have been coming to the Brook Run Dog Park for about four months now.

I was shocked to hear that the city of Dunwoody was trying to move such a beautiful park that is so popular. I was sickened when I heard of the estimated costs to move the dog park. At a time when we are still making so many cuts to the city budget, why would you decide to spend our money so recklessly? It is irresponsible for the council to use the money in this way.

The proposed site for the dog park is insufficient for the following reasons:

o The tree umbrella the current site provides is critical.

o You can experience 80-degree weather anywhere from March to October.

o Without the shade provided by trees, it is too hot for dogs adequately to exercise.

o When pets are not exercised sufficiently, they can become aggressive.

o The tree umbrella provides protection from the sun

o I am a person at high risk for skin cancer and never have to worry about it at the current site. My dog has even gotten sunburn at other parks in the area.

o Increases risk of heat stroke.

o The trees help filter the noise from the dog park. I have hiked on the wooded trail and can barely hear any noise. The new site is next to a concrete area that will echo the noise.

o Moving the park to accommodate a few and displace many is wrong. The park currently affects only a few individuals. Moving the park affects hundreds who visit the park and are happy with the site.

If the council votes to move the park, I am forced to believe that they will not spend my tax money responsibly and will vote accordingly in the next election. You are not just moving a dog park you are disrupting a community that meets there daily. Brook Run is not just a dog park, it is a community.
