After 11 games, the North Paulding Lady Wolfpack had a 2-9 overall record after defeating Southeast Whitfield, 52-42, in their last matchup before the holiday break.

“So far the season has been a challenge. We have trouble on the offensive and defensive end of the floor as well as trouble with injuries. However, in our last three games we have found the answer on the defensive end of the floor which has allowed us to compete in games,” said first-year head coach Scott Green.

North Paulding only has one returning starter this season – junior point guard Jalexis Teemer. Green said Teemer is the leader of the team, has “great court vision” and handles the ball “extremely well”. Unfortunately Teemer was met with a high ankle sprain on Dec. 14, during the victory against Trion.

“We hope she can return in the first week of January,” Green said.

Green said freshman guard Bailey Noonan and sophomore guard Morgan Ferrell filled in nicely during Teemer’s absence to help get a big win on Dec. 20.

The top scorers for the Lady Wolfpack right now are seniors Sam Curl and Emily Maxwell. These two players also lead the team defensively.

Since the season started, Green said his team has improved in their intensity on the court and their mentality as well.

“Our girls are playing with a sense of urgency and hunger and will take the ball to the rim as well as shoot the outside shot. We simply have not played with confidence through our first eight games. We are starting to develop our confidence as we enter into the holidays,” Green said.

This season, the team has developed two goals, win region games and give themselves an opportunity to play well in the region tournament.

“I think we are a better team than our record shows and will improve throughout our second half. I am excited about the future of this program,” Green said.

Now that school is out for the break, North Paulding will be competing in a holiday tournament.

“We head up to Gordon County on Dec. 28 and 29 for the Phoenix Classic at Sonoraville High School. We’ll be playing an aggressive and uptempo Gilmer County team and an extremely talented and undefeated Sonoraville team,” said Green.
