A portion of Sandy Springs’ Lake Forrest Drive, closed in June due to concerns regarding the stability of the slope along the road, reopened Friday, the city announced Friday. Sandy Springs completed stabilization repairs to the road, between Lake Summit Drive and Chevaux Court, one week ahead of schedule.

A geotechnical analysis conducted in late summer indicated long-term deterioration of the soil environment along the slope. Since 2009, the city received 13 work order requests related to mud/rock slides and trees down along Lake Forrest Drive with eight of those work orders occurring in 2013.

The slope stabilization project included installation of a structural catch system and vertical wall. The cost of the project was $750,000. Part of the road was closed for three hours in January 2013 as crews work on an emergency slope maintenance project.
