Big changes are taking place at DeKalb County Animal Services this week.

Effective July 1, LifeLine Animal Project began managing shelter operations at the facility. The enforcement division will continue to be managed by the DeKalb County Police Department.

LifeLine Animal Project Founder and Executive Director Rebecca Guinn said LifeLine is optimistic about the difference the organization can make in the lives of animals in DeKalb County.

“Through our innovative programs and high-impact solutions, LifeLine has made significant improvements at Fulton County Animal Services,” said Guinn. “Now we’re ready to take on the challenge at DCAS.”

According to new DeKalb shelter Director Susan Feingold, the shelter is offering a special July fourth promotion in honor of the new management.

“We invite everyone to help our animals celebrate their own Independence Day by coming into the shelter from July fifth to July seventh and taking advantage of terrific adoption rates,” she said. “During this promotion all dogs are only $40, and all cats are only $17.76.”

The adoption fee includes the pet being spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped. Adoption promotion hours are Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m.
