Shooting guards Tashara Jones and Tobreshia Horn both signed prior to National Signing Day, Jones on Dec. 18 and Horn on Jan. 31.
Jones signed with Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas.
“Tashara is going to the ideal program for her. [Texas Southern] Coach Cynthia Cooper will serve as the perfect mentor and coach. Her lofty expectations and high levels of discipline, in conjunction with her unquestioned basketball background, make TSU excellent for Tee,” said head coach David Mills.
Mills described Jones as a natural scorer, strong-willed and having a big personality.
Coaching Jones since she was a freshman, Mills said she has made great progress with her scoring over the years.
“Her greatest progress since the ninth grade has been her ability to control that portion of her game and consistently produce positive results possession after possession,” he said.
Mills said Jones has always had the drive to take over a game, but as she has grown in the game, she now has the discipline to know when to take it over.
“Tashara is going to have every opportunity to be successful at TSU. She will grow as a student, person and a player under Coach Cooper. Without a doubt, she will flourish in her new atmosphere,” Mills said.
Horn signed with Andrew College in Cuthbert.
“Tobreshia found the perfect fit for her game and personality. Coach [Samantha] Paradise has a great vision for her program and Tobreshia stands to play a vital role in its implementation,” said Mills.
Only playing varsity basketball for two years at Lithia Springs, Mills said Horn has made a big change from her junior year.
“Tobreshia has really come into her own this season. Last year, she faced some obstacles in our system that caused some frustrations. This season she has become more comfortable in her role as floor general, leader, and scorer,” Mills said.
Mills said, in just one season, Horn nearly doubled her shooting percentage and cut her turnovers in half.
With such a quick turnaround during her short high school career, Mills said he is confident Horn will find success at Andrew College.
“Tobreshia will be successful no matter where she goes and what path she chooses. The fact that she is going to Andrew solidifies this. Academically and athletically, she will be a standout performer,” said Mills.
